About Ampthill Lodge No. 2490
The Ampthill Lodge No. 2490, located in Bedfordshire, was consecrated on June 22, 1894, with a ceremony held at St. Andrew’s Church, followed by a banquet at the White Hart Hotel.
Throughout its history, the Lodge has been actively involved in both Masonic and non-Masonic charitable activities. It has hosted the Provincial Grand Lodge on several occasions and has seen many distinguished members, including Lord Ampthill, who played a significant role in its early development.
The Lodge initially met at the White Hart Hotel, then moved to premises above a grocer’s shop in Dunstable Street in 1924. In 1974, the Lodge moved to its current location, the Old Ampthill Courthouse, providing the Lodge with a permanent home.
In the latter half of the 20th century, the Lodge continued to thrive, with notable events including the celebration of its 50th, 75th 100th and more recently the 125th anniversaries. The Lodge has also been involved in the formation of new Lodges in the area, further expanding the Masonic presence in Bedfordshire.
