This stunning set of gavels was donated by Lord Ampthill to The Ampthill Lodge in the early 20th century, as was typical of various items in those days, the handles are carved from ivory.
These specific gavels are seldom used in The Ampthill Lodge today, if ever, with solid wood gavels employed in their stead.
